VENUS TRANSIT 2012 (June 5-6)
Venus transit images taken by my son David in KK, Malaysia
Probably the best maximum image (processed from .NEF) ...click on it for a larger
one...
Best 3D transit reconstruction from time interval images at maximum transit :

New ! Color versions from original RAW (Nikon NEF) pictures !

Click here for a short egress avi (animation in divx).
Now images of the third and nearly fourth contact ...
All pictures taken with a Nikon DSLR camera and very old white Meade 100/1000 mm mak on a tripod
3D transit reconstruction from time interval images :
above cross-eyed view ... click here for // and here for anaglyph views.
A little experiment with live streams !
Both live streams present on same PC with 2
monitors captured at the same time (PrintScreen, many screen captures done).
Distance of observatories broadcasting live on Internet (Exploratorium, San
Francisco, California, USA and Weizmann, Rehovot, Israël) ~ 11940 Km (from
Google Earth mesurement). Yellow image from Exploratorium, grey image from Weizmann,
two versions after approximate rescaling, orientation and superposition.
Hint : if you want to see the best pictures available of the Venus transit see this great site : http://legault.perso.sfr.fr/
Previous VENUS TRANSIT in 2004, June 8 (IDF France) in H-alpha and 3D

Using the links provided below you will be able to see in full screen other commun 3D formats suitable for your monitors or 3D TV (via HDMI) :
You will have the impression of seeing the black disk of Venus somewhere between you and the Sun !
Some explanations :
Telescope : Perl-Vixen 4", F=900mm, H-Alpha 90mm Coronado filter, Canon EOS 10 D and Philips webcam (moded with BW CCD)
This is not a real picture ! It is a photo montage realised from two shots separated by 20 min.
Intensive post-processing with RegiStax, Corono and especially SPM (Stereo Photo Maker).
It nevertheless gives an idea of what we could see if our eyes were separated by about 40 000 km !
Please have a look at my astromovie of the full transit here.
H-ALPHA INGRESS
State of this latitude of the Sun ...
Click on one of those pictures to see (or save as with right click) a high resolution H-Alpha astromovie
of the ingress (6 x accelerated, DVS stabilized)
In the sequence just below (40
registered frames then an interval of 8s in between pictures),
I did not see the so called "black drop" effect (click on image for
full size) ...
Below a cross-eyes 3D vision showing Venus shadow floating in space (time interval used 40s):
H-ALPHA EGRESS
H-alpha environment at egress time :
Jet prominence :)
Click on one of those pictures below to see (or save as with right click) a high resolution H-Alpha astromovie
of the egress (6 x accelerated, Registax6 + Registax5 + DVS stabilized ... due to very windy conditions !)
Caution : due to the high quality, length and framerate of those astromovies, their size is just below 50Mb !
Just after egress from the chromosphere,
Venus was not seen (should be center of red square)
even when greatly increasing the webcam gain
