A simple 3mpix IR camera requiring no modification for in NIR photography or MPEG4 320*240 movies !
Looking for a small camera to be able to put behing the defiltered Canon 300D to help framing through the viewfinder, I tried the Aiptek DV-3500 I had in my drawers.
Surprisingly, this cheap camera seems to has an IRCut filter transparent up to about 830nm ! You just need to put a 5*5mm IR filter on the objective !

And how about a free IR pass filter ?
I remember an old page on internet http://amasci.com/amateur/irgoggA.html
where it was said how to do a cheap IR pass filter !
Then I made the filter from a round piece of black paper with a small hole (3mm)
and 2 small pieces of bright Red and congo blue from the free "swatch pack"
of
Lee filters and covered the DV3500 lens. See the resulting picture (enhanced
in PSP7) ... Neat for the price :)
Expériment other free Lee filters (http://www.leefilters.com/architectural/)
Go deeper into IR with the #713 J.Winter Blue eg.
and also maybe get an IR cut filter (Hot Mirror / Infra-red reflector ?) for
normal use with your defilered camera ...
If you want to see a small movie taken with the same camera click here
(3Mo).

Also tested the Aiptek Mega Cam (which is one
of the smallest available and only 20g without batteries !) with
the 695 nm filter.

Result is not bad :) But no image screen on this camera...only a small LCD for parameters (Photos, 640*480 video ! ...)
