Moon Eclipse (Jan 21, 2000)

3D International Collaboration

Interested in Astronomy and 3D stereoscopic vision I started an international collaboration project to take the Moon during the total eclipse of Jan 21th, 2000. I am not aware if a such thing has been done before.

They are are to be seen without any accessory after learning 3D-inverted vision as it is possible in my special page. Inverted-vision give beautiful 3D depth, color and resolution quality for two reasons : 1) twice more pixels & 2) the defects caused by JPG compression in both pictures are leveled, all but restoring original uncompressed quality.

Nb: With the images were the effect will be the most pronounced, I will later make an image for Red/blue 3D glasses.

I thank everybody who wrote to me to participate even if later their sky was not clear (or it was so cold) at the time of eclipse giving them no chance to take pictures. All participant having images to share will be cited below as they come and join the project (sorry, some full names are not yet known) :

Christophe, "ccmlt"<ccmlt@wanadoo.fr (http://perso.wanadoo.fr/the-astronomers-notebooks, FRANCE

Colt, "colt"<colt@airmail.net, Irving (Dallas) Texas USA

Doug, DMurrayMIA@aol.com, West Palm Beach, Florida USA

Guy Libante, Guy.Libante@wanadoo.fr, http://www.astroccd.com/saturne/astro-images, FRANCE

Keith C. VanDen Heuvel, vandkc@athenet.net, Green Bay, Wisconsin USA

Matt Kucharski, mkuchar@us.ibm.com, Chicago Illinois USA

Below are the first attempts realized to match two images  for 3D effect :

(Images were not easy to match with their different luminosity and quality, but nevertheless a slight non flat/3D effect already appears)
