MAGIC LANTERN (ML)

Here with Canon EOS 500D and 18-50 mm FD= 3.5 lens

I) How to set other exposure values than auto
in movie mode in order to avoid blurred frames due to movements :

First change :
Enter ML and goto Expo submenu


NOTE : Standard is 20 FPS

Then change exposure
Place cursor on Shutter, "SET", " L/R arrows" (luminosity of image changes in real time) :

Then change ISO
Up arrow, then L/R arrows (luminosity of image changes in real time):

Then change Aperture (in case)
2x Down arrow, then L/R arrows (luminosity of image changes in real time).

Finally quit Magic Lantern ....

 

Testing ...

Normal aspect of fan blades (at stop) and movie with standard Canon EOS 500D

Changes of appearance with different exposures (1/100 .. 1/8000s) ...

... blades are more and more distinguished but jello is important !

 

II) How to (only) reduce FPS to directly create time lapses movies :

First change
Enter ML ...
in Movie menu with "SET" button, turn ON FPS Override (generally shows actual FPS value) and finally click LV (LiveView) button to open submenu :

Then change FPS value ...
Place cursor on Shutter, "L/R arrows" (actual FPS changes in real time) :

--->>

 

Finaly quit Magic Lantern ....

 

III) Mix of both above tweaks ...
- other exposure values than auto in movie mode
- ISO changes
- Aperture
changes
Note : shutter speed changes not available

 

Enter ML
- goto Movie submenu, there change FPS
- goto Expo submenu and change ISO / Aperture
