Improving the quality of W3 or other 3D APNs (or not 3D BTW) pictures

In case you have the time, the scene is not moving, no clouds, no wind or in macro with a cyclopital3D ... you can dramatically improve the quality and the smoothness of the images by co-registration.

The principle is that you take about 10 successful pictures with the camera not moving.

Just below is a single image thumbnail. Click on it to examine the Full HD resized or here for the 100% size cropped image (lot of sky removed).
Of course the original picture examined at 100% will best show the noise of the image ...

see for comparison a single denoised then bit sharpen image

Now let's see the complete enhancement process with ten W3 shots :

1. Open the original MPOs in SPM (StereoPhotoMaker) and in order to preserve original quality as much as possible,
save them in BMP format as "Stereo Images", side by side, compression on 100.
2. Download & install RegiStax5.1 (http://www.astronomie.be/registax/setupregistax5_1.exe)
3. Select file type as JPG and open the 10 pictures. Ignore the "too large" error message***.
4. Click on a central and contrasted zone of the picture shown. Click Align. Select all frames pushing the sliding cursor at the bottom
completely to the right. Press Limit.
5. Select Optimize and Stack.
6. When done, in the Wavelet page open the "Denoise Wv level 1" tool and set denoise to 1000. Then push the first Wv cursor to 50.
7. Hit "Do All". When completed, save the image as a new BMP.
8. In SPM, use manual ajustment (anaglyph view) as usual, crop and after an eventual "Resize" save the result as stereo image.

Click on the image just below to examine the Full HD resized or here for the 100% size cropped image.
Of course the largest picture examined at 100% will best show the much improved quality of the image especially on flat surfaces ...

*** You will have to cut a small bit of the resulting picture. This is the only problem.
